The upstream cost of a check is zero. Public Base RPC, Sourcify and the OFAC mirror are all keyless and free, and the transfer simulation is an eth_call. The price is our work — reading it correctly, and being careful about what it does and does not mean.
How billing works
Ask for auto and you never have to know in advance. We reserve 8, settle 5 if the address turned out to be a plain wallet, and return the difference to the exact pool it came from — included allowance, then purchased, then earned, in reverse.
A check where the chain would not answer observed nothing, so it is a non-answer and refunds in full. A high band is the opposite of that: it is the most valuable thing this product can tell you, and it is billed.
$0.060 an address, $0.096 a token contract. Pass kind explicitly — address or token. The two cost different amounts and a pay-per-call price has to be knowable before you sign for it, so auto stays on the credit rail, which can refund.
A malformed or bad-checksum address is refused before any price is quoted, so you never sign an authorization for work that cannot succeed. Verification happens before settlement, so a check the chain would not answer never takes your money.
